Here at Mark Wahlberg Chevy Avon, we are all about bringing the community together. We also enjoy the thrill of sports and the camaraderie and pride locals in the Avon, Cleveland, and Akron, Ohio, areas have for their teams.
That is why we are proud to have our name displayed on the stadium of Avon High School. Whether it be crisp, fall Friday nights cheering on the football team or sunny spring afternoons watching the student-athletes race their way around the purple-colored track, we are always happy to see parents, peers, and alumni gather at Mark Wahlberg Chevrolet Stadium to cheer on their beloved Eagles.
The History of the Mark Wahlberg Chevrolet Stadium
Originally built in the 1950s, this stadium has hosted many memorable moments throughout the years. It was first built when the then-new high school was also being constructed. Back then, it only had some bleachers, and the field itself was made of grass.
Then, in the 2000s, major upgrades began to be made to the stadium to reflect the growth of the school and city. In 2007, the grass was replaced with turf. In fact, the field within the stadium became the first football field in Lorain County to use an artificial playing surface.
Now, you’ll notice that the stands have also become larger to accommodate the abundance of fans that come out to watch games, matches, and meets. Updates continue to be made as well throughout the stadium, which includes the addition of the welcoming brick entry gates.
Events to See at Mark Wahlberg Chevrolet Stadium
The reason we are grateful to be involved with the stadium is that it continues to foster a place where the community can gather and cheer on their friends, family, and peers and allows us to support the growth of youth sports for our neighbors.
It’s also a multi-purpose stadium that is home to many of the athletic teams of Avon High School. In the fall, the football team lines up against other local schools, and the girls’ and boys’ soccer teams take on their in-conference rivals. There are even youth football programs that the little ones can get involved with that are hosted at the stadium!
Then comes spring, and you’ll be able to see runners get in the blocks and field athletes get ready to jump and throw as far as they can during home track and field meets.
A History of Success
Mark Wahlberg Chevrolet Stadium has always been the setting where some outstanding teams and athletes have experienced great success. The football team has consistently made deep runs in the playoffs, and in 2011, they even reached the Division II State Championship game.
Throughout the years, the soccer teams have added to their resumes with Southwestern Conference Championships, District Titles, and excellent play in the state championship tournament. Many of the track and field athletes have qualified for the state championships in recent years with a few even coming home with the title of state champion!
Year in and year out, various students receive the honors of being on the 1ST Team All-Southwestern Conference and on the All-Ohio team. All the while, these students balance their schoolwork and enjoy just as impressive success in the classroom. There are also many former Eagles now wearing new jerseys as they showcase their talents at various colleges across the country.
